The Eastern Shore Oral Health and Outreach Program for the State of Maryland provided dental supplies to over 800 children and their parents enrolled in SHORE UP! Inc.’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Christine Leo, director for the Eastern Shore Oral Health and Outreach Program, provided toothbrushes, fluoride toothpaste, dental floss, goodie bags, disposable masks, pamphlets on oral health for kids, a healthy smile guide, as well as educational handouts on maintaining good oral health during the pandemic and more.

Although COVID-19 prompted SHORE UP!’s Head Start programs to function using distance learning, staff are continuing to push education and health awareness.

“When we are in session, children brush their teeth twice a day, after breakfast and after lunch,” says Alexis Jackson, SHORE UP!’s Health supervisor. “Dental supplies can be costly, so we wanted to ensure that children and their parents have the supplies they need to continue good oral hygiene.”
