With 13 centers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, these programs offer a unique foundation for family success. SHORE UP!’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs cater to young children, their parents and pregnant women.
Children ages zero to three-years-old may attend the Early Head Start program with a focus on developmental, social and educational success. Family advocates also perform weekly 90-minute home visits with parents to engage them and their children.
SHORE UP!’s Head Start program is a comprehensive family development program for three to five-year-olds. Preparing children for Kindergarten and helping them to meet developmental and nutritional needs are the primary goals.
The Early Head Start program also provides information to pregnant women on breastfeeding, school readiness, healthy meals and community resources.
With a mission of building communities, changing lives, and empowering individuals and families to maintain long-term independence and achieve economic security, SHORE UP! utilizes its Head Start and Early Head Start programs to assist families in various areas.
“We partner with families to find effective methods in dealing with issues such as single parenting, illiteracy, homelessness, substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, health and nutrition, domestic violence, budget and finances and community violence,” says Dr. Corey Bowen, director for the Early Head Start and Head Start programs. “We will continue to provide the services needed in our seven-county area to ensure successful, healthy, safe, happy and economically secure families.”
SHORE UP!’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs are located in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Kent and Dorchester counties. To apply for the Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs, you must be income eligible.
